Scattered is a new platform enabling people to experience art in striking and unexpected locations. Disregarding pretension and staid clichés of how, when and where art should be enjoyed, Scattered sees art as accessible, emergent and dynamic.

An accidental glimpse, a secret conversation, a sporadic experience.

Shhhhh, no one’s going to be looking…

Summer Lovin'

A huge thank you to everyone who made Scattered 2 (a little like 'Home Alone 2' but without the would-be robbers and Macaulay Culkin) a success. The heavens in all their sunshine-laden glory were against us but the true and committed (some still with sand on their toes from a Sunday morning sea dip) were there to bathe in the rays of truly brilliant art.

A grateful shout out to all at Vanilla in Truro - thanks for a great venue and for all your support. Some at Scattered are still reeling from seeing Vanilla without their obligatory sambuca goggles on but that's the joy of Scattered - a different experience is guaranteed every time.

And so, what awaits us next time? Well, summer is most definitely in the air and Scattered has an appetite to satisfy. The solution? Only a god damn, arty farty, let's all sit in the sunshine and make new friends while talking about art and sh*t picnic! Yes, for one month only and in homage to the sun god that will guarantee that we all look healthy and radiant by the end of August, Scattered will be veering away from our much-loved exhibition format and hosting an informal meet and critique, sit and chit (chat) and nibble and squibble (interpret as you will) picnic in the first week of August.

Who needs sambuca goggles when you're having fun in the sun?!

Today could be...

Mark Twain once said, 'Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today.' Thomas Jefferson said, 'Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.' And Mother Teresa said, 'The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted.'

Okay, so the last one isn't quite as relevant but, Scattered followers, these guys knew their sh*t. And if they were still with us today, by god, they'd be visiting upstairs at Vanilla (in Truro) today between 4 and 6pm for the second Scattered exhibition. That's upstairs. At Vanilla. In Truro. Today.

Oh and Gary Barlow reckons that today could be the greatest...

Credit Check

I am notoriously bad with money. (Please note that ‘I’ refers to this individual writer and not Scattered, which is as fastidious with its finances as it is with its selection of artists - it has to be, quality digestive biscuits don’t come cheap these days). In fact, so bad am I with balancing the old budget sheet that I once travelled as far as the tube would go in North London to secure a loan with a 3000% interest rate (well, something like that as I don’t actually remember the rate; I’m not that astute) and spent the next twelve months fearing for the safety of my kneecaps in the event of a missed repayment.

So, with what joy it was this morning that I heard that Greece may default on its national loans. Now, it’s nothing personal about Greece (I like moussaka) but how fantastic to know that someone else – or should that be some government else? – is as crap with finances as I am? Suddenly, I feel a sense of smugness knowing that my crapness will never be detrimental to a whole country. I may sometimes have to substitute tomatoes on the vine for cheapy, tasteless vine-less ones (oh, the woes of being ever so slightly middle class) but I will never drag an entire country into the depths of poverty with me. Agh, I’m pretty much the Big Society personified…

But why am I writing this? Well, dear Scattered follower, with the second (YES, I said SECOND) Scattered exhibition taking place on Sunday 3rd July and considering these days of austerity that we find ourselves in, I feel it only right to warn you of the risk of defaulting on your commitments to the artistic Bank of Scattered. Your payment comes in the form of your enthusiastic attendance and your economically wise appreciation of the fantastic art you'll be seeing and we'd hate for you to 'forget' (I've tried that excuse many times before - it doesn't wash!).

So, be prepared to keep your appointment with us this Sunday, keep your eye on the blog for information about the location and remember, non-attendance will go against the terms and conditions of your passion for new and exciting art…

Your knee caps have been warned!

June 5th, you little rascal, you...

As I lie on my bed, looking at the majesty of Truro Cathedral bathed in the last rays of the day’s unexpected sun, all becomes clear…

It isn’t the heart-warming array of colours reflecting from the leaves of this glorious city’s many trees. It isn’t the soothing sounds of the few birds still whispering their evening greetings to each other. And it isn’t the grey, blue hues gently graduating from the horizon up to the awesome expanse of the late May sky….

No, it’s the shocking, bloody fact that it’s not even 9pm and I’m in bed with the alarm already set for the morning. To add insult to aged injury, I’m also wearing flannelette pyjamas (I won’t mention the faux leopard print pattern) and I don’t even care!

But fear not, dear reader, this horrific uncultured, unstimulating (for non-flannelette fetishists) scene is not taking place at Scattered HQ. Oh no. At Scattered HQ, exciting things are afoot.

Hot on the heels of the awesomeness that was May 8th follows the pesky little, energetic upstart known as June 5th. You just can’t keep this one down. If it’s not yapping at your knees reminding you of the second Scattered Art exhibition soon to take place, it’s making fruity gestures with your leg and, you know, you’re both kind of enjoying it....

Thank god for Scattered Art, you dirty, dirty, dog...
